Retirement Information

The Nashua Region has steadily built a reputation as a fine place to settle after retirement.

As the country’s population ages and the demographic profile shifts, discussion about quality of life takes on a new focus: where to retire. Deciding that is just as important as decisions concerning an IRA or 401(k).

The Nashua Region has steadily built a reputation as a fine place to settle after retirement, evidenced by the growing number of upscale retirement facilities. The region hosts more than 1,000 units, all focused on independent living or assisted independent living.

National surveys indicate that the checklist for the retirement location includes low crime; quality health care; lots of cultural, recreational and educational opportunities, four seasons; a variety of housing alternatives; proximity to an airport, mountains and water .

The Nashua Region scores high on every aspect of the checklist. Nashua is consistently rated first or second as America’s safest city. Excellent health care services are conveniently available at the city’s two hospitals, both of which have programs targeted at the special needs of retirees. In addition to the region’s close proximity to Boston, local cultural, recreational and educational opportunities abound. The region has five colleges, its own symphony and arts community, and a supercharged senior center with more than 3,200 members.
Music, dancing, education, health promotion and artistic programs are offered at the Nashua Senior Center. It is also a jumping off place for a seemingly endless stream of trips and excursions. There are more than a dozen golf courses and every shopping experience imaginable just a short drive away.
